Community Author Spotlight: Ghost Hunter Mystery + Weekly Deals

Running BritishTV.com and GreatBritishBookClub.com, I occasionally spot British authors in our readership. When this happens, I make a point of checking out their work - and while I don’t always love the books I find, I sometimes encounter a real gem.
A Ghost Hunter’s Guide to Solving a Murder is one of those books. Author FH Petford is a retiree in Somerset who wrote professionally for years in a business capacity before turning to fiction during COVID (later signing with Hodder & Stoughton for his Alma Timperley series).
In 1914 Cornwall, newly inherited hotel owner Alma Timperley discovers her seaside inn offers guests séances with the dead - but when a maid’s body is found and whispers of a German spy spread through Falmouth, Alma must use both her wits and her eerie gift to uncover a killer.
At time of writing, it’s on sale for 99 cents (and included with Kindle Unlimited). You can check it out HERE if it sounds like your kind of book.
You can also read more about the author and see images of his Monty Don-worthy garden HERE.

British eBooks on Sale: November 3rd
As always, a short disclaimer on the sale listings - the overwhelming majority of our readers are US-based, so sale availability may vary outside of the US (it’s up to the publisher/author if they wish to coordinate sales internationally). Deals can disappear at any time, but all e-books were $2.99 or less at time of writing.

Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust by Alan Bradley - When twelve-year-old chemist and sleuth Flavia de Luce is exiled to her mother’s old boarding school in Canada, she stumbles upon a charred corpse in a chimney and uncovers chilling secrets behind the academy’s haunted reputation in this witty, gothic mystery.
Death at the Dog Show by Peter Boland - When a woman is fatally injected at the Christchurch Dog Show, the ladies of the Charity Shop Detective Agency swap teacups for sleuthing caps to sniff out the killer in their sleepy English seaside town—where competition, jealousy, and pedigree pride might just be motives for murder.
(IRISH) The Titanic Sisters by Patricia Falvey - In 1912, two Irish sisters board the Titanic dreaming of a new life in America—only to be torn apart by tragedy.
(BOX SET) Detective Michael Angel Books by Roger Silverwood - In the Yorkshire market town of Bromersley, old-school Detective Inspector Michael Angel tackles baffling murders with grit, humor, and a touch of Yorkshire stubbornness in eight twist-filled mysteries where red herrings abound and justice always has the final word.
The Lavender Lady by Faith Martin - When widow Effie James joins a ghost-hunting group investigating a haunting at an Oxfordshire manor, she expects whispers from the beyond—not murder. As the team probes the mysterious death of Claudia Watkins, the so-called Lavender Lady, they uncover secrets darker than any spirit and a killer desperate to silence the past.

The Seeker by SG Maclean - In 1654 London, as Cromwell’s power reaches its peak, Captain Damian Seeker—his feared and loyal agent—investigates the murder of a war hero and uncovers a web of deceit and political intrigue that could shake the Protectorate itself.
The Bone Clock by Andrew James Greig - In the mist-shrouded Scottish Highlands, DI James Corstorphine investigates a gamekeeper’s gruesome death beneath a hanging tree—only to uncover a string of killings tied to decades-old secrets, a vengeful killer, and a community where silence can be deadly.
The Light Over London by Julia Kelly - When antiques dealer’s assistant Cara Hargraves discovers a WWII diary and photograph in a Cornish estate, she unravels the story of Louise Keene, a young gunner girl defending London during the Blitz—two women connected across generations by love, loss, and the courage to fight for their own futures.
Scoop by Evelyn Waugh - Evelyn Waugh’s classic satire Scoop follows mild-mannered nature writer William Boot, mistakenly sent to cover a war in the African Republic of Ishmaelia, in a sharp and uproariously funny send-up of journalism, ambition, and the absurd chase for headlines.
Snow Love Lost by Portia Macintosh - When Ivy inherits her late mother’s year-round Christmas shop in the seaside town of Marram Bay, she pours her heart into keeping the festive spirit alive—until a handsome businessman arrives with plans to demolish it for a holiday resort. As she fights to save her beloved store, Ivy discovers that beneath his frosty exterior may lie a spark that could change both their Christmases forever.
